i'm not a fan of hashtagging every little thing on twitter or instagram(here's a funny bit from jimmy fallon and justin timberlake) or looking up every meme that's trending, but i will sometimes follow a hashtag that i'm interested in. recently, while looking at #veganfood, i came across a word i had never heard of: #thinspo. many of you might already know what this means. i did not. so for those of us uneducated in interweb lexicon, thinspo is the abbreviation of thin and inspiration. thinspo uses images or slogans or videos of unusually skinny women, often celebrities, as a form of motivation and inspiration for weight loss. i googled some of the thinspo sites and can tell you i was shocked. i know i'm out of touch with what's trending with young women these days, but these sites have a deluge of content, a sensory overload of skinny, skinny girls, and it makes me wonder if we've made any headway on healthy body-image issues.

i was prompted to write a flash fiction piece about this, a micro-short story from the point of view of a thinspo girl. i will be posting the piece shortly. let me know what you think.

blessings and health, annette
